The benefits of massage include but are not limited to: relaxation; improved circulation and stimulation of the lymphatic system, which are essential in reducing stress, nourishing vital organs and maintaining optimum health; increased flexibility and range of motion; pain reduction; sense of well being; improved sleep.

Massage, like other healthful habits such as exercise, proper nutrition and meditation, when performed consistently over time has a cumulative effect.  Even a brief 20-30 minute session once a month can stimulate the body’s healing powers.

Whether you seek the restorative benefits of deep relaxation or therapeutic effects of a focused session, explore the possibilities.  Experiment.  See how you respond.

Swedish Massage
Deeply relaxing, Swedish is the foundation for many types of western massage.  Clients remove as much clothing as is comfortable and remain covered throughout the massage except for the part of the body the therapist is working on.  Practitioners use a combination of techniques and generally work the entire body.  Lotion or oil is used to help the hands glide over the skin.
Trigger Point Therapy
Techniques, especially the use of compression, to release constrictions within muscles that cause referred pain.  Many people identify this type of massage with ‘deep tissue’ work.
Energy Work
The following techniques fall within a category called energy work, which uses the subtle energies of the body.  The therapist may place her hands on the body or work in the energy field that surrounds it.  Energy techniques can be applied through clothing or directly on the skin.   The goal is to clear, balance, heal and/or energize the body, emotion, mind and spirit.  Energy work promotes optimal health by reducing stress, preventing illness, and maintaining or regaining health, assisting with relaxation and provides a renewed sense of spiritual well being.
Reiki
Beginning at the top of the head and moving downward, the therapist gently places her hands on the client’s body leaving them in position (about 20 in all) for several minutes allowing intuition to guide to areas that need unblocking.

Therapeutic Touch
A scientific method, 5-20 minutes in length, aimed at restoring balance and symmetry to the energetic field.
Healing Touch
The practitioner uses a variety of techniques, including Therapeutic Touch, to assess and modulate energy in the field for the purpose of influencing the energy system to promote body, mind, and emotional and spiritual health.
Subtle Energy and Massage
The next group of massage styles incorporates the skills and knowledge of subtle energy with massage techniques.
Craniosacral Therapy

The therapist is trained to feel the wavelike motion (generally 6-12 cycles per minute) of the cerebral spinal fluid, similar to a pulse. She reads this rhythm by placing hands on the skull, the sacrum, or tailbone which all is attached to membranes encasing the spinal fluid. The pressure used is generally no greater than the weight of a nickel. The goal is to release tension in the system, which enables the body to self-correct.

  Myofascial Release Therapy

A wide variety of techniques ranging from prolonged stretching and soft tissue movement to subtle indirect techniques, a philosophy of care that uses the concept of entrainment.
  Polarity Therapy

Balances the flow of energy to restore balance and harmony. The practitioner places her hands on energy centers of the body and may use a combination of gentle rocking and vibration with stillness.
  Reflexology
The theory of reflexology is that every part of the body is conneted to a pressure point on the ears, hands and feet. Applying pressure stimulates the body’s self-healing abilities.

Shiatsu

Japanese form of massage, which uses the acupuncture meridians, pressure techniques and stretching. A Shiatsu session is designed to stimulate the flow of energy within the body restoring balance and harmony, thereby preventing serious illness and/or restoring a sense of health and well-being. The client usually lies on a well-padded mat on the floor, and wears loose comfortable clothing.

Aromatherapy
Scented oils enhance massage not only because they smell pleasant. They also evoke physical and emotional responses that can provide relaxation, reduce anxiety and stimulate the body’s healing responses.
Raindrop Technique
Rooted in the Lakota tradition and developed by Gary Young, President of Young Living Essential Oils, a company that specializes in therapeutic grade essential oils. This technique uses a combination of 7 essential oils and 2 blends that are applied to the soles of the feel and along the spine.
  Stone Massage
